![]() There is no reason for Eva to prevent the Memory-Based version of Neil from ever creating it if the creation of that mere thing didn't affect Neil and presumably his illness in someway And this is high speculation from my end and Faye's presence within the machine makes a big plot-hole on this thought but, we're constantly told within the series these machines are not to be tested on Employees and that by any means they shouldn't be tampered, and right fully so since we do see in Impostor Factory the prototype take the life of lynrie's pink-haired coworker one where Eva and Sigmund still happen, his life is totally intact, but the machine is gone. If I was to guess I think Eva is more than just trying to fixing her mistakes and give herself and Neil closure, I more so dare to believe she wants to get rid of the machine within Neil's mind so he, somehow, can have a happy life within another arranged reality. Why so? Because of Neil's sudden headaches whenever he doesn't get his pills, which have the same red flashing-screen animation as that of a patient in near death. Though if you do ask me, I dare to say Eva's traversal is not done after Neil's death but during his passing. I'm willing to bet that, by the time we see the games play out, Neil has already died in the real world from his illness and Eva is using Neil's Machine to try and give herself some closure, by fixing the mistakes she made while Neil was still alive.Īmazing breakdown and props for your unique perspective, depending how these games further develop I might possibly believe these myself lol I also agree with the idea that something tragic must have happened to our main characters. It's real in the sense that they're really Neil's memories, but they're also not real, as the games are really just Eva traversing through Neil's memories with Faye working behind the scenes to keep everything stable for her. So in a way, what we see take place in the games is both real and not real at the same time. The times the little girl described the floating woman who rescued her plush from the fountain, and the woman seen on the motorcycle could just be Faye doing her job and making sure the simulation remains stable. Faye is the one who oversees everything within the machine, as revealed in Impostor Factory. So how would stability be maintained? Easy. As we know from the games, the simulations of people's memories aren't always stable. The machine could require some oversight to keep the entire simulation stable. Upon realizing that Memory Eva can see her from the car, she immediately makes herself invisible again, which we see as the Eva in the street suddenly vanishing.Ī second type of difference between the real world and what's seen in Neil's memories may have to do with the nature of the machine itself. For example, when we see the two Evas in Sigmund Minisode 2, the one crossing the street could be the real Eva having accidentally made her presence known to the people in the memories. This could lead to small differences between what happens in the memories and what actually happened in the real world in the past. On one hand, Eva might make mistakes as she travels through Neil's memories, since she isn't as familiar with how Neil's version of the machine works. Almost everything we see in the games is stuff that happened in the real world, but then small details are different for reasons that still make sense. This theory makes a lot of sense, the more I think about it. So to summarize, all the events of To The Moon, the Sigmund Minisodes, Finding Paradise, and Impostor Factory were things that have already happened in the real world in the past (from Neil's point of view), and we as the audience watch these events unfold as Eva uses Neil's Memory Machine to go through Neil's memories.
